On 12th November 2024, six people were killed and one critically injured when a Toyota Innova collided with a stationary truck at ONGC Chowk, Dehradun. Preliminary investigations suggest reckless driving, as the car was reportedly racing a BMW before the crash.
CCTV footage revealed the Innova was speeding over 120 km/h and engaged in a road race with the BMW. The crash timeline shows the Innova maintained a steady speed until 1:19 am, when it suddenly accelerated after being overtaken by the BMW near Synergy Hospital. Moments later, the Innova lost control and crashed into the parked truck.
Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh stated, “The footage shows the Innova speeding excessively just before the accident, likely attempting to match the BMW’s pace.”
The BMW occupants, questioned by police, claimed they were en route to Max Hospital and stayed at the scene for 25 minutes to assist.
The sole survivor, Siddhesh, remains in critical condition and is expected to provide further details once conscious.
