I think Power Failure or someone “played” with the elevator. There are so much security features on an elevator that even such horrible thing cant happen. There are brakes on the engine and if the cabin exceed a presetted speed the elevator stops. Also when the cable snaps the cabin fall maximal 10 cm down and stay intakt.
