Female Athlete Crushed by a 270kg (600lbs) Barbell

Bikaner, India: 17-year-old Yashtika Acharya, a Junior National Games gold medallist in powerlifting, died during training on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, after a 270 kg barbell fell on her neck at a local gym.

According to Naya Shahar SHO Vikram Tiwari, Acharya’s neck broke on impact, and despite immediate medical attention, she was declared dead at the hospital. Her trainer also sustained minor injuries.

Her family has not filed a complaint, and after a post-mortem examination, her body was handed over to them on Wednesday.
