Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024, just days before he was set to accept the Republican nomination for a third time. Trump was shot in the ear, causing panic among attendees.
The FBI identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was killed by Secret Service agents after firing from an elevated position outside the rally venue. One attendee was killed, and two others were critically injured.
Multiple people at the rally told media that they noticed someone suspicious and alerted security, but Secret Service failed to protect Trump.
