In Shanghai, a frightening incident unfolded at a supermarket around 4:30 pm on April 4, as reported by Chinese media. CCTV footage revealed a missing floor plate on the travelator, causing a woman to fall into the gap and become trapped from her lower body down.
Witnessing the woman’s plight, a compassionate passer-by, along with a man, rushed to help and activated the emergency stop button. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t free the trapped woman from the malfunctioning travelator. Firefighters later arrived, removing the floor plates and using hydraulic equipment to rescue her after a challenging 30-minute ordeal.
The woman, now in the hospital’s intensive care unit, underwent two surgeries to address her injuries and faces the possibility of a skin graft, as well as the risks of infection and amputation, according to her husband, Mr. Lu, speaking to the media.
