In a devastating incident today (April 23 2024) in Lumut, Perak, two Royal Malaysian Navy helicopters collided mid-air, resulting in the tragic deaths of all 10 individuals onboard. The Perak fire and rescue department confirmed the fatalities at the scene after responding to an emergency call at 9.50am. Teams from nearby stations were swiftly dispatched to the Lumut Royal Malaysian Navy stadium in Manjung, Perak, following the alert.
The Royal Malaysian Navy released a statement identifying the two helicopters involved as models HOM (M503-3) and Fennec (M502-6). The statement confirmed that the HOM helicopter was carrying seven people, while the Fennec helicopter had three onboard. All victims were pronounced dead at the scene and were subsequently transported to the Lumut Royal Malaysian Navy Base military hospital for identification purposes.
