On July 30th, 2023, a blast occurred in Khar, Bajaur, a town near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, during a workers convention of the religious political party Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F). Evidence suggests the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
As a tragic outcome, the death toll from the incident has risen to 56 people. Despite an increase in terror attacks since the Afghan Taliban’s control in Kabul in August 2021, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) denied involvement in this incident. The central leadership of TTP condemned the attack in a statement to the media.
Pakistani Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah responded to the incident by ordering an inquiry. This unfortunate event underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Pakistan in the region.
