5th Nov 2023 – Radio anchor DJ Johnny Walker, real name Juan Jumalon, was tragically shot dead during a live broadcast from his home-based studio. This horrifying incident marks the fourth journalist killed since President Marcos Jr’s term began in June 2022, highlighting the concerning state of press freedom.
Jumalon was livestreaming on Facebook when the assailant entered and shot him. The suspect had asked permission to make an “important announcement” on air, according to local reports. The attack took place in Jumalon’s own home, doubling the gravity of the situation.
Despite immediate efforts to rush Jumalon to the hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival. The police have obtained CCTV footage from the area and are actively investigating the case.
President Marcos Jr has vehemently condemned the murder and instructed the police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry to swiftly apprehend the culprits.
