A constable belonging to the Special Protection Force (SPF) tragically took his own life by shooting himself with his service rifle at a bank within the Dwaraka police station limits in Visakhapatnam on Thursday morning. Identified as Polavarapu Shankar Rao, the deceased hailed from Maddilapalem locality in the city and was originally from Srikakulam.
While on duty at the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) in Dwarakanagar, Rao, who served as a gunman, utilized his service weapon, a self-loading rifle (SLR), to commit the act. Authorities determined that he had shot himself in the heart, causing fatal injuries. The trajectory of the bullet caused damage to the ceiling upon impact.
Rao’s motive for the tragic action remains unclear, although authorities suspect financial difficulties may have played a role. Survived by his wife and two children, Rao’s untimely death has left the community in shock. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
